Mr Michael Oko qualified in 1986. He started his training in London, at both St Mary’s Hospital and the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital. In 1995, he was one of only twelve trainees to reach the final for the ‘Surgeon in Training Award’ for instrument design and innovation, organised by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Since 2005, he has worked as a Consultant ENT surgeon within the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (ULHT). He acted as Clinical Lead for ENT from 2007 to 2011 and Clinical Lead for General Surgery from 2009 until 2011 at ULHT.

Mr Oko has a keen interest and expertise in sleeping disorders, including sleep apnoea. In 2006, he founded the Snoring Disorders Centre based at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston and then opened satellite clinics at Johnson Hospital in Spalding. Mr Oko’s revolutionary sleep service at ULHT won the NHS East Midlands Healthcare Award for service transformation. He then went on to win the Middle East Hospitals Award for Respiratory Excellence in 2011 for raising awareness of sleep apnoea. Mr Oko has an active role in campaigning for improved research and services for sufferers of sleeping disorders.
