Diagnostic services at The Lister Hospital

The Lister Hospital , Chelsea Bridge Road , London, SW1W 8RH

The Lister Hospital has an extensive suite of diagnostic services. We offer same-day appointments with our on-site radiologists, and diagnostic teams with rapid results, often within hours or even immediately after your consultation. This helps to reduce the need for multiple visits and accelerates treatment planning, getting our patients the care they need as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Our diagnostic services includes full body MRI, cardiac MRI, our endoscopy service, X-Ray, and ultrasound, enabling us to diagnose a broad range of conditions.

Endoscopy

An endoscopy is a procedure that allows us to look inside the body using a long, thin tube that has a tiny camera on the end. The camera sends images to an enhanced 4k screen, helping to visualise the source of any pain or discomfort.

At The Lister Hospital we now have the Olympus EVIS X1, the latest in endoscope technology. This cutting-edge device provides incredibly clear pictures and detailed magnification, making it easier to detect abnormalities, assisting our expert team in providing an accurate diagnosis. Harnessing the power of AI, the device can also detect the presence of hard-to-see abnormalities. Our goal is to catch issues earlier and reduce the burden on our patients if they need treatment.

What conditions are we able to diagnose?

Our endoscopy services enable us to accurately diagnose a range of conditions including bowel cancer, acid reflux, gallstones, ulcers, rectal bleeding, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and bloating, coeliac disease, and more.

How long will the procedure take?

Patients should allow 2.5 hours for this procedure, which includes admission, 30 to 60 minutes for post-procedure recovery, and discharge. A copy of the report on what has been found will be shared at the end of your appointment.

When are appointments available?

Appointments are available Monday to Friday, to book an appointment patients must have a clinical referral via an HCA UK consultant, GP referral or other clinical professional. To book call: 020 7881 4098, or email LH.Endoscopy.Pre-Assessment@hcahealthcare.co.uk.

Full body MRI

We can now offer our patients an MRI scan that gives a full view of the body. The detailed scan can take up to 90 minutes, and the images allow our doctors and consultants to diagnose and treat a wide variety of medical conditions more accurately and efficiently.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance recommends to consider full-body MRI as first-line imaging for patients with suspected or newly diagnosed Myeloma (cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow).

Our full body MRI scans are carried out by a specialist team and provide images of both the skeleton and vital organs, bone marrow, the brain, neck, chest, pelvis and abdomen (including the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas and gallbladder). For taller patients, we may not be able to scan the entire body – our team will discuss this with you at the time.

Patients wishing to book our full body MRI scan at The Lister Hospital (Chelsea Bridge Road) or Chelsea Outpatients Centre (280 Kings Road) must have a clinical referral via an HCA UK consultant, GP referral or other clinical professional. To book, call 020 7882 4114.

Cardiac MRI

The Cardiac MRI Service at The Lister Hospital offers a full range of cardiac scans, including cardiac rest, cardiac stress (perfusion) and hypertension imaging. We use a cardiac MRI scan to look at your heart’s function, size and structure.

The scans take 60 to 90 minutes and allow our expert medical teams to see if there have been any changes in the heart, such as damage caused by a heart attack or heart disease. The images can help our doctors and consultants give an early diagnosis of suspected cardiac conditions and plan any necessary treatment.

Patients wishing to book a cardiac scan at The Lister Hospital must have a clinical referral via an HCA consultant, GP referral or other clinical professional. To book, call 020 7730 3759 or email TL.Imaging@hcahealthcare.co.uk
