Dr Geoffrey J. Lloyd was born in 1943 and educated at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School of the University of London. He gained BSc Anatomy in 1967, MBBS in 1970 and the MRCP in 1973. When a student he was President of the British Medical Students Association and then President of the International Federation of Medical Student Association. He was awarded his FRCP in 1984 and since then has gained an LLB in 1994. His early medical education was in the Liver Unit of the Royal Free hospital with Dame Sheila Sherlock. He has held the posts of Senior Lecturer Gastroenterology, Clinical Tutor and Consultant at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School.

In Kuwait he was Senior Medical Officer at Ahmadi and taught undergraduates and postgraduates in the Kuwait Medical School. He was head of the Medical Unit in Awali Hospital Bahrain. Since being in Wimpole Street he has visited and run clinics in Qatar and still travels frequently to the area.
