Dr Simon Campbell is a Consultant Gastroenterologist offering specialised care for stomach and bowel related problems and complaints.

    Accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist

Dr Simon Campbell qualified from Birmingham University in 1994 and was subsequently offered an MD fellowship in Edinburgh undertaking research into drug therapy in Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients.

In 2004 he achieved an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Royal Liverpool University Hospital where he trained in specialised endoscopy techniques as well as running the capsule endoscopy service.

He trained both in Edinburgh and the Oxford regions specialising in IBD and luminal gastroenterology. He was initially appointed to Manchester Royal Infirmary in October 2006 as a Consultant Gastroenterologist, where he was the clinical lead in IBD as well as holding honorary senior lectureship positions at both Manchester university and Salford university.

From 2015, he was appointed as a part-time NHS consultant performing bowel cancer screening at the Mid Cheshire Hospital NHS trust hub.

Dr Campbell’s specialties focus on luminal gastroenterology – this encompasses all upper gastrointestinal complaints, coeliac disease, IBS, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease as well as diagnosis and management of colon cancer. He has a sub-interest in investigating iron deficiency anaemia and obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.

In addition to this, his advanced endoscopy training broadens the scope of techniques that can be performed. These include complex polypectomy, colonoscopic surveillance as well as the latest endoscopic anti-reflux procedures and capsule endoscopy
