Prof John Deanfield

Professor Deanfield provides medical advisory services for HCA's The Harley Street Clinic, Portland Hospital and for HCA UK generally. For Portland Hospital, he provides advisory services regarding the management of congenital heart disease, including advising on compliance with national standards. He interacts with medical staff and the hospital leadership team to promote high quality care. He has also contributed to strategy, policies and innovation in the care of patients with heart disease of all ages. 

 

He provides medical advisory services to The Advanced Screening Centre, which is an HCA-operated centre that provides screening programmes to assess cardiovascular health. This Centre is operated by The Harley Street Clinic, and included in Professor Deanfield's work are the creation and maintenance of protocols relating to cardiology and cardio-prevention for advanced screening. He has provided advice on the delivery of the paediatric cardiology programme, pathways of care, facilities, quality improvement, outcome monitoring and reports.

 

Professor Deanfield contributes to the strategy, policies, and decision-making regarding cardiology treatments and advises HCA to ensure that care provided within HCA facilities is appropriate and efficient.   Professor Deanfield advises on initiatives to drive up clinical standards by providing professional advice on clinical governance matters and ensuring the adoption of these by cardiology colleagues. He provides professional advice to HCA leaders in the development of a unified cardiac, thoracic and paediatric department across HCA Healthcare.

 

HCA UK is charged by doctors in return for their expertise and advice, including on how to operate safe hospital facilities delivering complex care. All services provided under this agreement are charged to HCA UK. In 2020, the total paid for these services was £160,500. Until 31 August, the total paid for these services in 2021 is £45,000.

 

HCA requires the doctors that advise us to attest that if they also practice in the NHS that they are not compromising their NHS commitments.
