Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB)

Complex GI Centre

Which patients can benefit?

We treat patients with primary and metastatic HPB cancers, as well as those presenting with complex benign pancreatic and biliary diseases and patients needing biliary salvage procedures. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Primary liver, pancreas, duodenal, gallbladder and bile duct cancers
  • Complex benign pancreatic and biliary diseases requiring biliary excision and reconstruction, as well as patients needing biliary salvage procedures following inadequate cholecystectomies
  • Complex gallstone disease
  • Pancreatitis (acute and chronic)

Examples of treatments and procedures

  • All major liver resection

Surgery is often the best curative solution to remove primary and metastasising cancers, as well as benign abnormalities. Our team have extensive experience with all, including hilar cholangiocarcinoma resection and trisectionectomy.

  • Pancreas resection

Whether head, body and tail or total resections, with or without vascular resection, our teams bring their combined expertise to ensure your patient receives the best treatment possible.

  • Robotic liver, biliary and pancreas surgery

We are one of only a small number of centres currently undertaking major robotic HPB resections in the UK. This procedure is carried out for selected major and minor resections.

  • Minimally invasive approach

Our minimally invasive approach in the treatment of complex, benign HPB diseases helps to reduce intraoperative blood losses and reduce the length of hospital stay for patients.
