£4.5M investment in scanning and sector first for The Harley Street Clinic

The Harley Street Clinic, part of HCA Healthcare UK (HCA UK) has invested £4.5m to expand its scanning capabilities, with the acquisition of two new CT scanners. This includes a first in sector, acquiring a high-resolution and high-speed SOMATOM X.ceed CT scanner from Siemens Healthineers.

Used to support the diagnosis and monitoring of conditions, including in oncology, cardiology and neurology, and to guide treatment plans, the investment reflects the continued demand for access to private care in the UK and across HCA UK.

First in sector technology

The SOMATOM X.ceed from Siemens Healthineers offers more precise imaging and will also support clinicians at The Harley Street Clinic with time-critical situations, particularly in trauma and brain haemorrhage, as well as cardiac care.

It comes with two unique "companions” to further support clinicians when imaging patients. Pushing the boundaries of digitisation, myExam Companion turns data into built-in expertise to reduce unwarranted variations by unlocking the full potential of the SOMATOM X.ceed automatically. During CT-guided interventions, myNeedle Companion offers comprehensive support with integrated lasers to project the needle entry point and insertion angle on to the patient.

It is the latest example of HCA UK’s continued investment in pioneering the most innovative medical technology.

Will Pressley, CEO of The Harley Street Clinic, part of HCA Healthcare UK, said:

"This investment in our scanning offering reflects our commitment to ensuring we always provide the consultants that we partner with and the patients we care for with fast access to care and the latest in medical innovation and technology.

"We are proud to be the first in the sector offering this new technology that further supports our delivery of the complex care we are renowned for. By combining the knowledge and expertise of our specialist consultants with the capabilities of the SOMATOM X.ceed, we are also enhancing the care we provide our patients, which has always been our guiding ambition"

Matt Gibson, Head of Diagnostic Imaging at Siemens Healthineers Great Britain and Ireland said:

"We are proud to continue our partnership with HCA UK and The Harley Street Clinic. This latest investment underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting the delivery of complex care and elevating the patient experience."

"Our SOMATOM X.ceed CT system is the first in the UK private sector and is equipped with technical precision and advanced guidance features. This system will future-proof The Harley Street Clinic to continue providing rapid diagnosis at a low radiation dose to patients."

A logistical feat

Getting the 2.5-ton scanner into the Grade II listed central London hospital was no mean feat. The HCA UK team worked with both local residents and the Council to get permission to close the road and bring in a crane, to deliver the scanner through the roof of The Harley Street Clinic and into its new home in the theatres.
