HCA UK announces members of its new advisory board

HCA Healthcare UK today announced Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, Professor Sir Robert Lechler, Professor Dame Shirley Pearce and Beverley Aspinall as the inaugural members of its new Advisory Board. 

This follows the recent appointment of Ed Smith, CBE, former Chairman of NHS Improvement and Deputy Chair of NHS England, as the Advisory Board Chair. 
The HCA UK Advisory Board, set up to support HCA UK’s agenda around quality care and sector-wide collaboration, will provide strategic insights and guidance to the HCA UK leadership team.

ABOUT THE BOARD MEMBERS 
Ed Smith CBE (Chair)
Ed brings huge experience to the role as the former Chairman of NHS Improvement and Deputy Chair of NHS England. He is the former Global Assurance Chief Operating Officer and Strategy Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Before retiring from Executive roles he had a successful 30-year career with PwC, holding board and top client facing roles in the UK and globally as a Senior Partner.

Professor Sir Bruce Keogh
Professor Sir Bruce was NHS England’s Medical Director and professional lead for NHS doctors until the end of 2017. He was responsible for promoting clinical leadership, quality and innovation. Formerly, Professor Sir Bruce had a distinguished career in surgery. He was Director of Surgery at the Heart Hospital and Professor of Cardiac Surgery at UCL. He has been President of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland. 

Professor Sir Robert Lechler
Professor Sir Robert has held a distinguished career in academic medicine, having most recently been Vice Principal (Health) King’s College London. Professor Sir Robert is also a founding partner of MedCity, a portal to help connect collaboration between industry and research within the NHS. He was elected as President of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2015. His focus is now on informatics and data sharing, to improve patient outcomes and make collaborative ventures more effective.  

Professor Dame Shirley Pearce
Professor Dame Shirley was Vice Chancellor at Loughborough University, where she established the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine. A clinical psychologist by profession she has held academic appointments at University College London and University of East Anglia where she led the development of the health professional teaching and research programmes and established a new medical school for East Anglia. Professor Dame Shirley has held non-executive roles with the Healthcare Commission, Higher Education Funding Council for England and Health Education England, and was, in 2012, appointed by Theresa May as the inaugural Chair of the College of Policing. Amongst her current responsibilities Shirley is Chair of Council at the London School of Economics and Political Science. 

Beverley Aspinall
Beverley spent the first thirty years of her career in retail leadership, joining John Lewis as a graduate and working her way up to Managing Director. She was later asked to join Fortnum and Mason. She has since served on the board of Foyles, and of Aspinalls Group. Beverley brings in depth understanding of consumer behaviour to the Board. 

HCA UK’s inaugural Advisory Board meeting is expected to take place in spring 2018.
