Putting your heart health first

At HCA Healthcare UK, we focus our cardiology care on offering the latest diagnostic tests and treatments for heart conditions – so you can rest easy knowing your heart is in the best hands.

Diagnosing heart conditions

Diagnostic tests and imaging are a fundamental part of cardiology. The activity maps and images we create of each patient’s heart, help guide what our cardiologists do next. This is why we always invest in the latest diagnostic technology and it’s why the teams behind the equipment – from physiologists to reporting clinicians – are leaders in their field.

Specialising in every aspect of cardiac care

Every part of the heart is a branch of science in of itself. To achieve the depth of understanding and experience they need, consultants sub-specialise. Sub-specialising means our consultants perform their specialist procedures in greater volume than they would if they were a general heart doctor working towards better outcomes for patients.

Why do I need to see a cardiologist?

A cardiologist specialises in diagnosing heart conditions and can determine if the heart is the cause of your symptoms. Our consultants have dedicated their lives to understanding the human heart. They work together to keep it beating.

Should you need further treatment after diagnosis our consultants work closely with cardiac and thoracic surgeons, cardiac physiologists and respiratory physicians.

Our cardiology consultants

Our cardiologists, cardiac physiologists and specialist cardiac nurses offer you expert, comprehensive cardiac care as soon as you need it with a focus on managing each persons heart health.

There are three main types of cardiology consultant you may be referred to:

  • Non-Invasive Cardiologist - focus on the coronary arteries and detection and treatment of heart disease.
  • Invasive Cardiologist - focus on minimally-invasive treatment to identify or treat structural or electrical abnormalities within the heart (such as arrhythmia, palpitations and tachycardia).
  • Interventional Cardiologist - focuses specifically on catheter-based treatment of structural heart diseases (such as ventricular septal defect (VSD), cardiomyopathy, heart valve disease and Marfan syndrome).

Complex cases: leading heart doctors in one room

In these multi-disciplinary team meetings, they’ll scrutinise evidence, review images and debate diagnosis and treatment. Every opinion is heard and nobody defers to any one person. Together they channel decades of experience, gained treating thousands of patients, into making the best decision for every individual.
