Dr Richard John Barlow qualified at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1983 and wrote his Membership examination after postgraduate general medical training at Hammersmith Hospital and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London. He obtained a research fellowship with Professor Malcolm Greaves at the St John's Institute of Dermatology, as a result of which he has an MD from the University of London. Having completed his general dermatology training at St John's, he spent a year as the fellow in advanced dermatologic surgery with Dr Neil Swanson in Portland, Oregon. Since 1996, Dr Barlow has been a consultant and honorary senior lecturer at St John's. For the last 5 years he has been president of the British Cosmetic Dermatology Group. This is the cosmetic affiliate to the British Association of Dermatologists and he is am a co-director of its annual training course in London. He will be president of the St Johns Dermatology Society for 2009/2010. Dr Barlow practices privately part time at The Lister Hospital.
