Dr Vias Markides has specialist expertise in cardiac electrophysiology and the ablation of all arrhythmias. He has a particular interest in complex arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. His research is also focused on atrial fibrillation. His other areas of experience include pacing, ICD implantation, and cardiac resynchronisation. Dr Markides was awarded the University of London Gold Medal in 1992, having received Honours in Medicine, Surgery, Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Pathology. In 2005 he was appointed as lead clinician, cardiac electrophysiology and pacing for both sites of the Trust and in 2008 as Arrhythmia Chair.Dr Markides was a member of the writing group for chapter 8 of the National Service Framework on arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. He leads the North West London Cardiac and Stroke Network group on device implantation.
