John Deanfield is British Heart Foundation Vandervell Professor of Cardiology at University College Hospital, London, UK. He is also Consultant Cardiologist at the Heart Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. Professor Deanfield undertook his undergraduate training at Churchill College, Cambridge, UK and the Middlesex Hospital, London. He subsequently trained at the Hammersmith and Great Ormond Street Hospitals, London.Professor Deanfield serves on many international advisory boards and is a member of the editorial boards of several major cardiovascular journals. He has published numerous articles in leading medical and scientific journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation and Heart. His principal research interest is vascular medicine, particularly the role of the endothelium in atherosclerosis.Professor Deanfield has received numerous awards during his career, including the Churchill College Anatomy Award (1970) and the Outstanding Research Award in Paediatric Cardiology (American Heart Association, 2003).
