The Harley Street Clinic retains CQC Outstanding rating

The Harley Street Clinic, part of HCA Healthcare UK, has retained its ‘Outstanding’ rating from the national regulators at the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following a recent inspection.

The report highlighted the ‘strong, visible patient centred culture’ and the ‘exceptional compassion and kindness’ in the way teams cared for their patients at the acute care hospital which specialises in cancer care, cardiology, and complex surgery.

The retention of the Outstanding CQC rating at The Harley Street Clinic, further supports HCA Healthcare UK’s wider reputation across its network for providing high-quality, patient-centred care, as well as its commitment to driving progress, best practice, and innovation.

HCA UK has total of 16 ‘Outstanding’ rated hospitals and outpatient centres.

 

Outstanding teams meet outstanding care

In its inspection report, the CQC commended The Harley Street Clinic for its outstanding practice in the categories of ‘caring’ and ‘well-led’, indicative of compassionate delivery of care and strong leadership.

The report highlighted that staff members went ‘the extra mile’ and that ‘care and support exceeded patients’ expectations. They noted that ‘staff took time to develop exceptionally positive, professional relationships with patients which led directly to an improved patient experience.’

Teams were also praised for their commitment to continually learning and improving their services, and that there was an embedded system of leadership within the hospital. Leaders were visible and approachable for both patients and staff, and staff felt respected, supported and valued.

The Harley Street Clinic were applauded by the CQC for its Outstanding services in surgical practice.

In particular, the report highlighted;

  • Staff on the hospital’s surgical ward had been upskilled by consultants to manage surgery patients.
  • The theatre team staggered surgical start times to ensure the theatre common area’s atmosphere was calm and quiet to further ease patient anxiety.
  • Patients felt that consultants showed them understanding, and said they explained everything to them in way which was easy to understand.
  • The service was actively involved in research. Surgical resident doctors were academically attached to a local university and regularly contributed to research papers and publications.
  • Surgeons had introduced several innovative technologies.
