Cardiac

Our paediatric services care for conditions affecting the heart’s walls, valves and blood vessels, including inherited cardiac conditions. We perform complex operations to save the lives of premature babies and correct heart defects in infants and children.

Our paediatric orthopaedic surgeons are able to help with everything from common conditions such as flat feet, fractures, curly toes, clubfoot and congenital hip problems through to more complex leg-lengthening procedures and scoliosis surgery.

An official diagnosis of autism can give your child and family access to new forms of support and help you all understand, live with and manage the diagnosis. Whatever age your child is when you notice symptoms of autism, we can provide an autism assessment and additional support.

When your child needs to spend time in hospital, it can be a difficult, and often emotional, time for the whole family. They need to feel safe and secure, and you need to know they’re getting the highest quality care and treatment.  

At The Portland Hospital, we’re dedicated to providing expert care in a warm and welcoming environment designed to reduce any anxiety for you and your child, to support their recovery. 

That means a dedicated team of paediatric experts, including leading consultants, clinical nurse specialists, as well as support staff, all there for your child at all times, so they get the help they need, when they need it.

Self-pay

You don’t need health insurance to be seen quickly. If you’re looking for a diagnosis or treatment for your child and don’t want to wait, all of our private healthcare services – from private GP appointments through to surgery and aftercare – can be paid for as and when you need them.

And to give you peace of mind from the start, we’ll give you a clear and transparent quote outlining exactly what’s included in your self-pay package.

Your questions answered

Pick up and drop off: Visitors can pick up and drop off patients at the main entrance. No parking is allowed as the driveway is for emergency vehicle access.

Local parking: There is no on-site parking and street parking is not permitted on a single yellow line between Monday to Saturday, 8.30am- 6.30pm. However, national and private car parks are available nearby. Please contact the admissions team if you require help to identify a local car park near to the hospital.

Disabled parking: Westminster Council operate a small number of disabled parking bays near the hospital, available to Blue Badge holders for up to four hours. The nearest one is on the corner of Bolsover Street, next to Tesco Express.

At The Portland it is open visiting, however, we do recommend that visitors leave by 10pm. If your child is staying over night, this means both parents and child can settle for the night.

Should you wish to stay overnight with your child (we actively encourage this). a bed will be provided for one parent to stay.

Yes, parents are very welcome to go to the anaesthetic room; and you can stay until your child is asleep, after which the nurse will accompany you back to your room.
