Portland pregnancy scans

The Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine Unit at The Portland Hospital offers both a consultant- and sonographer-led service. Using state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, you and your partner can share in the experience of seeing your baby grow and mark the milestones in their development as your pregnancy progresses.

You may also choose to have a 3D and 4D scan to further enhance the excitement of seeing your baby as they grow, and will of course have the opportunity to share the images with your friends and family. Please follow the links below for more a detailed look at the pregnancy scans we offer at The Portland Hospital.

Ultrasound scan

Ultrasound

Ultrasound scans are carried out at the different stages of your pregnancy, to help assess the progress of your unborn baby as they develop in the womb.

Each scan you have at The Portland is incredibly exciting, as our sonographers provide you and your partner with important information such as your expected date of delivery and, if you wish to be told, your baby's gender. You will also be given copies of the ultrasound images from each scan to take home with you.

Harmony and Panorama testsĀ

Our maternity unit at The Portland Hospital offers pregnant mothers non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), including the Harmony and Panorama tests, which can be carried out alongside your regular ultrasounds.

These simple, safe and accurate tests allow the measurement of fetal DNA in the mother's blood, and can be used to detect the most common chromosomal birth defects of Down’s, Edwards, Patau, Turners' Syndrome and Triploidy. The tests can also be used in conjunction with Nuchal translucency, helping to reassure parents-to-be that there is a reduced chance of these major chromosomal abnormalities.
