How we help you

With HCA UK, there are no waiting lists and we aim to provide treatment as soon as possible. We offer radiotherapy using the latest technology such as the TrueBeam™ linear accelerator, CyberKnife® robotic radiotherapy system and Perfexion™ Gamma Knife® machine. These pieces of ground-breaking technology target tumours with precision accuracy, this means they can target tumours in hard to treat areas, the increased accuracy means less healthy tissue is affected by the treatment. No two treatment plans are the same. We take a patient-focused approach, working with you to determine what’s best. Our highly skilled multidisciplinary team are on hand to help you make those all-important decisions, so you get the right treatment. Radiotherapy can be stressful for cancer patients and their families which is why we offer all patients wider physical and emotional support. Our aim is to help you stay strong, manage side effects and support you through the difficult stages of treatment and recovery.

Need to know

  • A closer look at radiotherapy icon plus

Doctors can provide both curative and palliative radiotherapy. Curative treatment is provided to attempt to destroy the tumours and cure cancer. Palliative treatment is provided when it isn’t possible to cure the cancer and instead is used to relieve symptoms. Radiotherapy can either be provided externally, where high-energy beams are directed at the affected area, or internally, which involves radioactive material being placed inside the body. It can be used as a stand-alone treatment in combatting cancer cells, or can be used in combination with other treatments such as chemotherapy. Radiotherapy is usually provided as an outpatient, as opposed to a hospital stay. We ensure that your radiotherapy treatment is designed to meet your individual condition. How long your treatment takes will depend on the type of cancer you have, any side effects you have and how the cancer responds.
