What is diagnosed by a sural nerve biopsy?

Sural nerve biopsy has an important role in diagnosing peripheral nerve disease.

The sural nerve carries sensation to the outside of the foot and lower ankle. It enables you to detect foot position and sensations, including touch, temperature and pain. These areas can lose function when the nerve becomes trapped.
