Colposcopy
Need to know
If you've had an abnormal smear test, your consultant will probably recommend a colposcopy. This involves using a bright light and a microscope to look at your cervix and closely examine any unusual or potentially pre-cancerous cells. Your consultant may also take a biopsy to confirm any diagnosis.

Fibroids
Need to know
Fibroids are non-cancerous growths made up of muscle and fibrous tissue that develop in or around your womb (uterus). Many women are unaware they have fibroids because they do not necessarily exhibit any symptoms. However, in some cases it can have a severe and damaging impact on quality of life due...

HPV DNA test
Need to know
Most types of HPV are symptomless. They usually clear up on their own without leading to future complications. However, if you have a certain type of high-risk HPV, it could be a sign that you're more likely to develop cervical cancer. The HPV DNA test screens for the highest risk forms of HPV.

Hysteroscopy
Need to know
A hysteroscopy is carried out using a thin telescope called a hysteroscope. It's used to diagnose or treat problems with your uterus. It can be used to diagnose or treat abnormal bleeding, or to remove abnormal growths, like fibroids or polyps. It can also be used to retrieve lost IUD coils.

Pelvic ultrasound vaginal
Need to know
A transvaginal ultrasound is a similar experience to a cervical smear. It may feel a little bit uncomfortable or embarrassing, but it shouldn't hurt. The transvaginal scan is less uncomfortable because there is no need to hold the vagina open with a speculum. A pelvic ultrasound can help your consultant...

Vaginal hysterectomy
Need to know
As well as your uterus, your surgeon may remove your cervix (neck of the uterus) too. In some cases they might also remove your fallopian tubes and ovaries. This operation can treat non-cancerous tumours called fibroids, endometriosis, heavy bleeding, pelvic pain and cancer.

Vaginal repair surgery
Need to know
The wall of your vagina acts as a support structure that holds your pelvic organs, such as your womb, bowel and bladder in place. If the muscles and ligaments supporting your pelvic organs weaken, one or more of your pelvic organs can slip down or bulge into your vagina. Surgery can help to correct this.

Monalisa laser therapy
Need to know
MonaLisa Touch® works by applying a gentle laser therapy to your vaginal walls. This stimulates the production of new collagen, rehydrating and tightening the membrane lining of your vaginal wall. Your consultant will administer treatment in tiny dots, meaning only a tiny area is affected at a time.
Our gynaecologists
Some of our gynaecologists also specialise in more focused areas of this specialty including, gynaecological oncology and urogynaecology.

Robotics and Gynaecology
By using a robotically assisted laparoscopic technique, the surgeon has a greater view which allows them to be much more accurate throughout the procedure.
It also reduces the chance of the surgeon having to convert to an open operation in comparison to a standard laparoscopic approach where visibility may be limited.
