Gliobastoma
A primary brain tumour is a serious condition that requires treatment. HCA UK neurosurgeons can diagnose and treat you
About
Primary brain tumours are those that begin in your brain, rather than spread from elsewhere in your body. The tumour arises from abnormal (cancerous) brain cells. The growth rate of the tumour is measured from Grade I (benign) to Grade IV (malignant). If you experience this condition, our HCA UK neurosugerons are able to diagnose and treat you.

Primary brain tumours can be diagnosed with a number of tests. Your consultant will discuss your symptoms with you, and may carry out the following: - A neurological exam to check areas such as your vision, hearing and balance - MRI and/or CT scan that provide clearer images of your brain - If a biopsy is required, your neurosurgeon will drill a small hole in your skull. They will then take a sample of your brain tissue with a needle. This may be done under local or general anaesthetic -
Potential treatment options icon plus
Your consultant will discuss your treatment options with you for your primary brain tumour. Treatment options may include: - Surgery to remove the tumour if it's located in a part of your brain that is accessible. This will likely be carried out under general anaesthetic - Radiation and/or chemotherapy treatment to kill cancerous cells - Radiosurgery is a very focused form or treatment. Multiple beams of radiation are targeted towards the small part of the brain where the tumour sits, killing the cells in the process
