Why do I get back pain?

Our spine is made up of 33 individual bones that protect our spinal cord and back pain most commonly occurs because there are mechanical or structural problems in or around the spine. This can be anything from a common ligament sprain brought on by heavy lifting to complex spinal injuries.  At HCA UK, we treat adults and children for the full range of trauma-based, congenital and degenerative spinal conditions.

Our extensive range of spinal services include:

  1. Lumbar decompression - Our specialists treat ‘pinched’ spinal nerves by removing part of the bone covering the nerve root and some of the disc material
  2. Managing sciatica - We offer caudal epidurals, an injection at the base of the spine to help relieve symptoms of sciatica caused by the sciatic nerve
  3. Spinal fusion - Using advanced techniques, our surgeons fuse parts of the spine together to strengthen it after surgery to relieve spinal stenosis
  4. Spinal tumours - With the help of state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, our specialists can remove tumours without causing any damage to the spine or spinal cord
  5. Prolapsed discs - We offer a range of disc-related treatments with the aim of alleviating your lower back pain and greatly improving your everyday quality of life
  6. Paediatric scoliosis - At The Portland Hospital, we regularly treat children with spinal conditions such as scoliosis (curvature of the spine)
