The Portland Hospital announces acquisition of The Birth Company

The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, part of HCA Healthcare UK, has announced the acquisition of The Birth Company, a leading practice which provides specialist imaging, scans, and consultations for expectant mothers and women with fertility problems. 

Founded in 2000 by Dr Donald Gibb, The Birth Company operates from Harley Street in central London and Alderley Edge in Cheshire, offering 3D and 4D pregnancy scans, NIPT screening, obstetrics and gynaecology consultations and complementary services, such as reflexology, pregnancy massage and psychotherapy counselling.

As the only private hospital in the UK solely dedicated to the healthcare of women and children, the acquisition of The Birth Company, which performs over 8,000 ultrasound scans per year, will expand The Portland Hospital’s capacity to offer exceptional care to mums-to-be. 

The acquisition will also mean a natural link into The Portland Hospital’s expert personalised maternity, gynaecology and paediatric services. The hospital’s maternity unit, which delivers more than 1,200 babies annually, combines world-class facilities with clinical expertise, while the paediatric unit offers highly advanced medical technology and expert care for children and babies. 

This will be the first time that HCA Healthcare UK has extended its maternity services to Cheshire, reinforcing its position as one of the leading private healthcare providers in the UK.
