HCA wins HealthInvestor Award for Public-Private Partnership of the Year 2013

HCA NHS Ventures, a division of HCA International Limited, which owns London’s six leading independent hospitals, has won the prestigious 2013 HealthInvestor Award for ‘Public/Private Partnership of the Year’.

Sarah Fisher, Chief Executive Officer of HCA NHS Ventures, received the award at Wednesday evening’s prestigious Grosvenor House ceremony in London, from writer and BBC broadcaster, Andrew Neil.

HCA NHS Ventures won the award for the division’s outstanding achievements both during 2012 and over the past seven years with continued expansion and investment into five major NHS Trusts which include: Harley Street at University College Hospital, The London Gamma Knife Centre at Barts, Harley Street at Queen’s, The Christie Clinic in Manchester and Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

The award judges praised the pioneering policies of HCA and said they awarded HCA NHS Ventures the top spot because:

“In a healthcare economy where artificial dividing lines between public and private are becoming increasingly artificial and unhelpful, HCA’s ground-breaking partnerships with NHS Trusts are an excellent example of what can be done. They bring exceptional new technologies and levels of patient care into NHS institutions and help to bolster NHS finances at a time when this is desperately needed. As a result all patients - NHS and private - benefit either directly or indirectly.”

Sarah Fisher said she was delighted with the award which was the result of teamwork between HCA and its NHS partners who together were providing world class care for patients in each of the units.

“Before we won the contract to for a joint venture with University College Hospital, this kind of arrangement had never been tried before. The success of these partnerships, the teamwork between all parties, has not only provided more patients with more choice and the highest standards of care, it has provided much needed income for trusts to invest in services for their NHS patients too,” she said.

Sir Robert Naylor, Chief Executive, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust added his congratulations: “The innovative and professional partnership forged over the past six years between the NHS and HCA International has been of immense mutual benefit. It has been very satisfying to partner with such a respected organisation which has helped to develop first class quality standards of patient care and services.”

“Access to the latest state-of-the-art technology and HCA’s substantial investment towards the new MacMillan Cancer Centre, has made a significant contribution to providing a wonderful environment for both patients and staff. We look forward to a continued and long successful partnership with HCA,” said Sir Robert.

Michael Neeb, President and Chief Executive Officer of HCA International, congratulated the HCA NHS Ventures team “We also recognise that the pioneering strategy of Sir Robert Naylor of University College Hospital and others has provided a template for the NHS and we very much value the strong relationships developed with all our partner Trusts.”

“We look forward to strengthening our ties with our NHS partners over the coming years and to continue working with them and our outstanding doctors and specialist medical teams to provide world class standards of care for our patients.”
