Double win for HCA's innovative cancer care

HCA’s innovative techniques that personalise cancer care and help improve quality of life for patients were recognised in a double win at the LaingBuisson awards last night (11 November).

The Christie Clinic -a collaboration between HCA and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester -was recognised for work it has done to personalise cancer care and redesign the patient pathway to better support patients receiving radiotherapy.

The other award went to London’s The Harley Street Clinic for the development of a study to spare hair follicles of patients undergoing radiotherapy to the brain to reduce hair loss and improve speed of regrowth following treatment.

It is hoped that this ground breaking study will bring significant benefits to future patients; reducing the worry of hair loss, improving quality of life and potentially becoming best practice.

Mike Neeb, CEO and President of HCA said;

“I’m immensely proud of the work that all of HCA’s employees do day in, day out to deliver excellent clinical outcomes in a compassionate environment and I’m delighted to see these teams recognised for their hard work and dedication to improving patients' lives."

Driving innovations and quality to ensure patients get the best possible care has always been at the heart of what HCA hospitals do.

HCA was, for example, the first to introduce CyberKnife technology to the UK, which offers an non-invasive treatment option for previously inoperable tumours. HCA’s The Princess Grace Hospital also launched a pioneering cancer treatment in the form of the NanoKnife, for tumours of the lungs, kidney, liver, breast, prostate and pancreas.

Through the Sarah Cannon Research Institute UK, HCA launched the first trials unit outside of the NHS with the ability to offer new anti-cancer drugs in clinical trials. The fast study set-up times gives patients rapid access to new investigational drug therapies –open for both private and NHS patients.
