Mr. Desai studied medicine at the Government Medical College in Baroda, India, and was awarded a postgraduate degree MS (Master of Surgery) in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 1995. He worked as an Orthopaedic consultant from 1995-2004 in India with a special interest in trauma, bone infection, and degenerative spine diseases. He further worked as an Orthopaedic trainee at various centers in the UK before being awarded a National Training Number (NTN) in Rehabilitation Medicine from 2007 to 2011 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Mr. Desai worked as a consultant in Neuro and Trauma Rehabilitation in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and then Stoke-on-Trent from 2011 to 2012, before joining as a consultant at the Regional Spinal Cord Injuries Centre (London SCIC) in June 2012. He was awarded an FRCP degree in 2017 by the Royal College of Physicians, London. His routine work involves specialist rehabilitation of complex traumatic and non-traumatic spinal injuries in adult patients, including Cauda Equina Syndrome, management of complex spasticity, neuropathic pain, musculoskeletal interventions in these patients (Botulinum Toxin injections, Intrathecal Baclofen drug delivery, nerve blocks, joint injections), and osteoporosis management. He has also developed a regional specialist spinal rehabilitation service for Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression, Cauda Equina Syndrome, and SCI with Polytrauma patients. His expertise includes spinal cord injuries and trauma rehabilitation, management of spasticity, neuropathic pain, and musculoskeletal issues.
