Meet Robin McNelis our lead clinical physiotherapist

"The aims of Physiotherapy after liver, pancreatic and major upper abdominal surgery are to reduce the risks of common post-op complications like chest infections and blood clots, and to return patients towards normal activities.

"From the day after the operation, patients are encouraged to take regular deep breathing exercises to expand the lungs whilst supporting wounds to clear any mucus from the lungs.

"The aims of Physiotherapy after liver, pancreatic and major upper abdominal surgery are to reduce the risks of common post-op complications like chest infections and blood clots, and to return patients towards normal activities.

From the day after the operation, patients are encouraged to take regular deep breathing exercises to expand the lungs whilst supporting wounds to clear any mucus from the lungs.

Over the next few days, physiotherapists will guide the patient through their breathing exercises and walking routine to try to get patients back to being independent as soon as possible. Before being discharged, a multidisciplinary team ensure that any necessary services and equipment are in place to ensure a safe discharge home."
