Your visit

As part of your diagnosis or treatment you may need to visit us for an appointment or to stay in hospital overnight. Whatever you're coming to see us for, we'll do our very best to make sure you get the best care.

What you need to know

If you're coming in for a day-case procedure

If you're being admitted to our day care unit, you should dress casually and not wear restrictive clothing. You don't need to bring any nightwear, but you might like to bring a pair of slippers. If you're coming in as day-case patient for chemotherapy, the chemotherapy unit is located on the first floor of The Christie outpatient centre on Wilmslow Road.

If you're coming in for an outpatient appointment

As part of your diagnosis or treatment you may need to visit us as an outpatient. This means that you'll visit us for a single appointment, for some tests, or for a procedure — without needing to stay overnight. Your consultant will let you know how to prepare. You should dress casually and wear non-restrictive clothing. Our outpatient treatment facilities include our chemotherapy day care unit, radiotherapy and diagnostic services. We have private consulting rooms and onsite blood-testing services so you can get your results quickly, we also have a dedicated pharmacy where you can get your medication.

If we'll be caring for you overnight

Before you arrive, we'll let you know what to bring with you, including any medication, X-rays and nightwear. The inpatient facility is based at the Oak Road treatment centre. Please don't go to the ground floor reception. Instead, take the lift to the 3rd floor and follow the signs. We'll show you to your room and a nurse will check your details with you. You may have some basic tests and your nurse will discuss any treatment with you. You'll have your own comfortable room, with an en-suite shower, wi-fi, phone and satellite TV. We provide fresh towels daily, and extra blankets or other linens if you need them.

If you have visitors coming to see you

Visitors are welcome at any time of day, and there are no restrictions on visiting hours. It's also possible for a friend or relative to stay with you overnight. Often, this depends on the level of care you need. So if you feel like you would like someone to stay with you then please talk to your nurse. Depending on your condition and treatment, visiting may be restricted. We also recommend that very young children, especially those who haven't been immunised, wait until you're discharged and feeling better before visiting you.
