Sian Allen is a full time Consultant Urological Surgeon at University College Hospital, London. In addition to her broad background in general urology Sian has developed a subspecialist practice in EndoUrology and Stone disease, treating complex cases from across the UK.
As well as performing minimally invasive surgery to remove kidney and bladder stones, she has a wide practice treating patients with obstructed kidneys from a variety of causes including malignancy, gynaecological disease and radiotherapy.
At UCLH, Sian is Clinical Lead for the Surgical Admissions Unit and Short Stay surgical wards for Urology, as well as Clinical Lead for the Urgent Urology Unit – a new service she developed with her team to relieve pressure from A&E.
Following a period of laboratory based research on stone disease, Sian was awarded an MD research degree by UCL for her thesis on the physical chemistry of urinary crystallisation and its inhibitors. She was also awarded a Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellowship to help fund her work.
As well as busy clinical roles, she is a keen teacher and trainer and is a regular faculty member and lecturer on several teaching courses including the British Association of Urological Surgeons viva course, preparing trainees to pass the FRCS Urol exam. She also has an interest in innovation and design and has been granted a patent on a safety-based product she invented. -
