    Valerie Lund is Emeritus Professor of Rhinology, University College London and is an Honorary Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, UCLH. She deals with all nose and sinus conditions with a particular interest in chronic rhinosinusitis, hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia and sinonasal tumours and has been involved in endoscopic sinus surgery and its extended applications since the early 1980’s. She has contributed extensively to the literature (36 books & monographs, 86 chapters, 325 peer-reviewed papers). She has lectured widely and received many prizes including for her most recent book, ‘Tumors of the Nose, Paranasal Sinuses and Nasopharynx’ (Thieme 2014). She is the only non-American editor of ‘Cummings Otorhinolaryngology’. She is a member of the Collegium-ORLAS and the American Triologic. She has been Chief Editor of ‘Rhinology’, Co-Chairman of EPOS, General Secretary of the European Rhinologic Society and Vice President of the European Academy of ORL-HNS. She was a Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (1995-2006), Chairman of the Intercollegiate Examination Board in Otolaryngology, President of the Section of Laryngology & Rhinology, Royal Society of Medicine and chaired Women in Surgical Training for the UK. . In 2008 she was awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) for services to Medicine by the Queen and was elected to the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (2009). She was President of the British Association of Otorhinolaryngology (2012-2015), in 2016 received an Honorary Doctorate of Medicine from the Universities of Brighton and Sussex for services to medicine and to women in surgery and in 2017 she will receive an Honorary Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons. In 2018 she will be President of the European Rhinologic Society Congress and ‘Master’ of the triennial British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology.
