    Following an Orthopaedic training in London, Cambridge and Melbourne, Mr Richard Field was appointed to the staff of St Helier Hospital, Carshalton, Surrey, in 1994. His NHS practice was based at St Helier Hospital until 2004 when the new South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) opened, on the Epsom Hospital campus.

    He undertakes NHS operations at SWLEOC and private operations at both SWLEOC and at St Anthony’s Hospital, Cheam. NHS out-patients clinics are held at St Helier Hospital and SWLEOC. Private out-patient clinics are held at St Anthony's. His private practice is based at St Anthony's Hospital in Cheam and the Lister Hospital in London. He also undertakes surgery at the Wellington Hospital in London.

    Mr Field’s practice is almost exclusively focused on the investigation and treatment of hip and knee problems. He is one of the world's most experienced surgeons in hip arthroscopy, and bone conserving hip replacement. He performs approximately 600 operations each year. These include: Hip Replacement - Hip Resurfacing, Bone Conserving Mini-Hip, Primary and Revision Hip Replacement, Hip Arthroscopy, Joint Preserving Early Intervention Hip Surgery, Knee Replacement - Primary and Revision Knee Replacement, Knee Arthroscopy, and Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.
