Professor Christopher Edwards is a Consultant Rheumatologist and Senior Lecturer at Southampton University Hospital.
After graduating in medicine from King's College London he completed specialist training at the Hammersmith and St George's Hospitals. He was a registrar under Professor Hughes at St Thomas' Hospital and undertook research at the Kennedy Institute in London. Following this, he spent a year treating lupus patients at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore. In 2001, he took up his consultancy post in Southampton.
Professor Edwards provides treatment for a number of rheumatic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. He has a specialist interest in lupus and runs the Southampton Lupus Clinic at Southampton University Hospital.
Alongside his clinical work Professor Edwards is actively involved in clinical research and has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He has a particular interest in the effects of the environment on lupus and new biologic therapies for the treatment of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
