    Professor Field trained in London, Cambridge and Melbourne. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the British Orthopaedic Association. He has served as a board member of the British Association for Day Surgery, the British Hip Society and the International Society for Hip Preservation Surgery (ISHA). He has advised the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and served on the editorial boards of several Orthopaedic Journals.

    Professor Field’s NHS practice is based at the UK’s highest volume joint replacement centre, the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). He has been SWLEOC’s Director of Research since 2004 and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, St George’s University of London since 2013. His central London practice is undertaken at the Chelsea Outpatient Centre and the Lister Hospital

    Throughout his career, Professor Field has worked with colleagues to develop hip preservation surgery. He has undertaken hip arthroscopy since the early 1990’s and has helped pioneer a number of innovative surgical procedures in this field. He was President of the ISHA in 2016-17.
    Professor Field has been actively involved in the design, development and evaluation of hip and knee replacements throughout his PhD in Cambridge. He has undertaken Hip Resurfacing since 1995 and adopted the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) for conventional hip replacements in 2008. He is the UK’s most experienced anterior hip replacement surgeon and is regularly involved in teaching programmes for surgeons wishing to learn anterior hip replacement.
