Dr Richard John Beale is Clinical Director of Perioperative, Critical care & Pain Services and Consultant Intensivist at Guys and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, St Thomas Hospital, London.
Dr Beale received his Medical degree from St Bartholomews Hospital, London, in 1984. He undertook his General Professional Training in Anaesthetics at Guys Hospital, London and was accordingly admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1990.
Having registered as a specialist in anaesthetics and intensive care, he held the posts of Clinical Research Fellow and Honorary Senior Registrar in Intensive Care at Guys Hospital, London, until 1992 when he embarked on his Higher Professional Training in Anaesthesia at the Royal London Hospital. He became a consultant in Intensive Care at Guys & St. Thomas Hospital Trust in 1995, becoming Head of Service for Adult Intensive Care Unit in 2000. In March 2005 he was made Head of Perioperative, Critical Care and Pain Services (now Clinical Director) across the Trust and continues to hold this post.
He has acted as principle investigator in a large number of multicentre research studies in the fields of sepsis, ARDS and clinical nutrition. He maintains up to date training in ICH GCP and the EU Clinical Trials Directive.
He was one of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicines representatives on the Steering Committee of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, and remains on the Publications Committee. -
