Professor David Nicol has been a Consultant Urologist for over 20 years. Originally from Australia he was previously Director of Urology and Renal Transplantation at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and Professor of Surgery at the University of Queensland. In Australia he pioneered laparoscopic urological surgery and performed the first laparoscopic nephrectomy in 1993 and subsequently trained numerous urologists, including many from the UK in laparoscopic renal surgery.

He has worked in the UK since 2009 – initially at the Royal Free Hospital and UCLH where he was Clinical Lead of Renal Transplantation and Renal Surgery. Since 2012 he has been at the Royal Marsden Hospital as a Consultant Urologist and Chief of Surgery with his clinical work focussing on urological cancer. This is predominantly complex kidney and testicular cancer for which he has a national and international referral base. His research interests focus on these topics and he is an invited speaker at specialty meetings in the UK and abroad. He has published over 130 articles in specialty journals and 8 book chapters.

Throughout his career he has maintained a strong interest in general adult urology encompassing diagnosis and treatment of common urological conditions related to bladder and prostatic symptoms, male genital problems and urinary infections. These are the main issues he deals with in private practice. He has a wide network of colleagues at London teaching hospitals and can expedite referral to the most appropriate sub-specialist where problems requiring specific expertise is required.
