    Mr Owens graduated in 1980 in Dublin at the Royal College of Surgeons (MB degree). After 3 years in Dublin Mr Owens moved to Leeds where he undertook his basic training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1984. Mr Owens obtained his MRCOG degree from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1986. In February 1987 he moved to Glasgow as a Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Mr Owens obtained his MRCPI (from the College of Physicians in Dublin).He undertook his research into Growth Factors in Ovarian Cancer in Glasgow University between August 1988 and July 1990 and submitted his thesis to University College Dublin and obtained his MD degree in 1991. In Glasgow he undertook his Oncological Training between 1990 and 1994 prior to Sub Specialty training which was introduced at a later date in the UK. He was appointed to Luton and Dunstable Hospital in August 1994 as a Consultant In Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He managed the gynaecologiscal Cancer Surgery and with the Calman Hine report he became one of the Gynaecological Surgeons for the Mount Vernon Cancer network undertaking Gynaecological Oncology Surgery at Watford General Hospital in 2006 for patients in South Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Mr Owens has had a broad training in General Gynaecology and undertakes laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis, hysteroscopic surgery, out patient hysteroscopy, colposcopy and total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH). He also undertakes all aspects of Gynaecological Oncological Surgery.
    Dr Owens is also a member of the BSCCP (colposcopy), BGCS (British Gynaecological Cancer Society) and BSGE (British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopists).
