Mr Robin Abel is a consultant paediatric surgeon. He graduated from University College London Medical School in 1988. His training and clinical experience was gained principally in major teaching hospitals, which were also tertiary referral centres for complex paediatrics and neonatology. These include Great Ormond Street, Birmingham Children's, John Radcliffe Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea and Westminster hospitals. He spent nearly two years as a Clinical Research Fellow in Great Ormond Street and Hammersmith hospital, working in one of the world's largest paediatric and academic centres. He was awarded a PhD for his thesis 'The Ontogeny of Peptide Innervation of the Pylorus with special reference to the development of Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis'. For this he was made a Hunterian Professor and won the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons prize as well.

Mr Abel has practised as a consultant paediatric surgeon since 1997, having been made a substantive consultant in London 2001. His guiding philosophy in caring for children requiring surgical intervention has been to minimise the impact that this would have upon the child, so that the child and family can grow develop and function overall as healthily and normally as possible. He offers a comprehensive paediatric and neonatal surgical practice, including services such as day surgery for circumcision hernia and mal-descended testes, for example.
