    Mr Aziz trained at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School where he obtained his MBBS degree in 2000. He undertook specialist colorectal training in the North-West London deanery programme and went on to complete a PhD at Imperial College London in 2008. He secured the FRCS exam in 2011 and undertook a high volume laparoscopic (keyhole) Ethicon colorectal fellowship at St. Mark's Hospital (Harrow, London) in 2012, followed by a fellowship there in intestinal failure, inflammatory bowel disease surgery, inherited cancers and polyposis, recurrent cancer, restorative proctocolectomy, and coloproctology.

    In 2014 Mr. Aziz joined The Christie, one of Europe's largest comprehensive cancer hospitals. At The Colorectal & Peritoneal Oncology Centre (CPOC), he specialises in complex minimally invasive (keyhole) and open surgical techniques to treat early, advanced, and recurrent tumours of the appendix, colon, rectum, and anus, including those that have spread to the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum), for which he performs cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intra-peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). He is a member of the sarcoma team, the lead for endoscopy at The Christie, and a national laparoscopic colorectal surgery trainer.

    He has published over 100 research papers, some of which have been used by the UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) in their guidance. He was a member of the 2007 ‘Healthcare for London-A Framework for Action’ team reviewing the capital’s healthcare needs for the next decade and has an interest in translating research into treatments for patients.
