Mr Wael Awad is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon who specializes in complex coronary artery bypass surgery, sutureless aortic valve replacement, mitral valve repair, and surgery of the intrathoracic aorta. He is the Lead Surgeon for the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation and Mechanical Heart Support Programmes at Barts Health NHS Trust.

Mr Awad graduated in Medicine from Imperial College, London in 1998 and trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery at prestigious teaching hospitals in London, including the Royal Brompton, The London Chest, Guy's, St Bartholomew's, and St Thomas" Hospitals. He trained with some of the leading and pioneering surgeons, including Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, Professor Peter Goldstraw, and Mr John Wright. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of London in 1999 for his research on ischaemic preconditioning in the immature myocardium.

Mr Awad was appointed as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Barts & the Royal London NHS Trust in 2003, where he has outstanding clinical results, as confirmed by the UK Healthcare Commission. He also receives many referrals from the Middle East and travels nationally and overseas to train local surgeons.

He is a prolific researcher and has published extensively in leading medical journals such as Circulation, JAMA, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Mr Awad regularly presents at national and international conferences and has been recognized by the 'Marquis Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare' for his contributions towards Cardiothoracic Surgery.
