Mr Scott Rutherford is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and lead clinician of the Skull Base Multidisciplinary Team at Salford Royal Hospital. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Cape Town, where he gradated with Honours. He moved to the UK to complete his general surgical training in Leeds, and neurosurgical training in Leeds and Manchester.
He completed a fellowship in skull base surgery in 2005, and sub-specialised in this field. This sub-specialty inludes the management of tumours at the base of the brain, such as acoustic neuromas and meningiomas.
Mr Rutherford treats degenerative spinal disease including cervical and lumbar spinal problems such as disc prolapses; this is done using surgical and non-surgical approaches.
Mr Rutherford has an interest in research, and has published many papers and presented at national and international conferences on various neurosurgical research topics. Mr Rutherford also runs an internationally recognised sub-specialty fellowship.
