Mr Ataullah graduated in Medicine from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, University of London, in 1991. He has 24 years of experience in Ophthalmology and 15 years experience as an NHS consultant.
After seven years of Ophthalmology training in London and Manchester, he trained extensively in Oculoplastic Surgery (also called ophthalmic plastic surgery) in Auckland and in the UK. Oculoplastic surgery focuses on disorders of the eyelids, eyebrows, tear drainage system and the orbit.
He was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) in 2002. He's the Clinical Lead for Oculoplastic Surgery and Chair of the Theatre Improvement Group at MREH.
He also has a keen interest in the teaching and training of ophthalmic surgeons:
He has jointly run an internationally renowned fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery at MREH since 2002. During this time he has trained surgeons from around the world as well as the UK
He's the Director for the internationally renowned Manchester Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Dissection Course, now in its 5th year. This course offers surgeons hands-on training in the latest specialist oculoplastic techniques
He was appointed as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists' Tutor for MREH from 2005-2012 and has been closely involved with the appointment, assessment, appraisal and training of junior doctors at MREH
He's the North West England Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Mr Ataullah has published in international peer-reviewed journals and has presented scientific papers in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden, and Belgium as well as the UK. -
