    Mr Rupert Eckersley is a Hand & Wrist Surgeon undertaking surgical practice in all aspects of Hand & Wrist problems, both traumatic and elective and including peripheral nerve repair in the upper limb. He works within the Wrist and Hand Surgery Unit based at the Wellington Hospital and the Hand Unit at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. He works closely with specialized Hand Therapists to provide a comprehensive and integrated treatment programme; a close working relationship essential in achieving a good outcome. He undertakes outpatient treatment for hand conditions including needle aponeurectomy (fasciotomy) for the treatment of Dupuytrens disease. While undertaking all open and arthroscopic surgery in the wrist and hand, his specific interest is in the reconstruction of the wrist after fracture, in particular the restoration of forearm rotation.

    Mr Eckersley has been involved in the development of the Hand Diploma, a higher qualification in Hand Surgery created under the auspices of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) and the University of Manchester. He is currently the Chairman of the Hand Diploma Committee, and represents BSSH in Europe and Internationally. He has been the Honorary Secretary of BSSH, completing his term of office in December 2009. He lectures locally, nationally and internationally on Hand & Wrist Surgery, and teaches on the AO trauma courses on hand and wrist fractures.

    Mr Eckersley trained in Orthopaedic Surgery in Oxford and received his specialist training in Hand Surgery in Oxford, Sydney & London undertaking a fellowship in Hand Surgery in Sydney under the tutelage of Professor Mike Tonkin. He continues to maintain his knowledge and education in Hand & Wrist surgery by attending both national & international meetings dedicated to Hand & Wrist Surgery.
