    Mr Mario Petrou was appointed as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at The Royal Brompton Hospital, London, in 2002. He moved to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford in 2011. He is now Head of Programme for Complex Aortic Surgery and Clinical Lead for Cardiac Surgery in Oxford.,Mr Petrou offers a wide repertoire of adult cardiac surgery in his practice. This includes coronary by-pass surgery (on and off- pump), complex aortic root surgery, the Ross operation, aortic valve and mitral valve repair techniques, aortic aneurysm repair and re-do surgeries. He also has a background experience of treating patients with cardiac failure (transplantation and mechanical assist devices).,He has consistently performed to a high level throughout his career as shown by his excellent surgeon-specific mortality and outcome results which are available in the public domain (www.scts.org). He places great emphasis on pre-operative assessment, meticulous technical surgery and assiduous post – operative care and believes that all three components are essential in order to obtain the best results for the patients.,Having worked with some world-renowned heart surgeons including, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, Mr Petrou’s career has been influenced by some of the best in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.,Mr Petrou considers the holistic care provided by the cardiology, cardiac surgery, anaesthetic, perfusion, intensive care and nursing teams to be unique and excellent at the Harley Street Clinic. There is an established and robust system in place providing a safe environment for any patient undergoing open heart surgery.,Mr Petrou has published over 50 peer reviewed journal papers and other publications. Mr Petrou was awarded the McCormack Gold Medal for outstanding performance in the Intercollegiate examination in Cardiothoracic Surgery (Part III FRCS) in 2001.,The topic of surgery can easily carry over from work to home life as Mr Petrou’s wife, Elizabeth Belcher, is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon. They have 3 young children however which guarantees that ‘shop talk’ is kept to minimum.
