    Karl Murphy is a well established consultant obstetrician at St Mary’s Hospital, now part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He has been actively engaged in private obstetric practice for many years, mainly at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital. Now he is also practicing at The Portland Hospital and will be providing the full package of private obstetric care for the women he books there at his weekly Friday morning clinic.

    Karl Murphy qualified in medicine in Dublin in 1981, and became a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St Mary’s Hospital, London in 1994.

    He has RCOG sub-specialist accreditation in Fetal Medicine and is in charge of the Fetal Medicine Unit at St Mary’s hospital. He has considerable expertise in the field of obstetric ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis and high risk obstetrics. At his Lindo wing practice he has been providing full private care to mothers who wish to have one-to-one care throughout pregnancy and birth since 1994. He enjoys providing private obstetric care and feels that it compliments his NHS practice well.

    Karl Murphy’s research interests include fetal monitoring in labour (his MD was based on this), obstetric ultrasound, and antenatal screening for Down’s syndrome. He is a member of the Independent Doctors Forum and has sat on the council. He is also a member of the Chelsea Clinical Society. He was Clinical Director of Obstetrics at St Mary’s Hospital from 1996-1998, and Clinical Director of Women and Children’s there from 1998-2000. He is a member of the MDU council and sits on the Cases Committee, and regularly undertakes medicolegal work on their behalf.
