  • Biography icon plus

Jonathan obtained his MBChB medical degree in 1997 and has been in full time medical practice since. He undertook orthopaedic training through the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Training Scheme in London. He is a fellowship trained subspecialist in hip and knee surgery and has been on the specialist register since 2009. He undertook a Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship and The American British Canadian Fellowship. He works at Stanmore Orthopaedic Hospital, the largest specialist orthopaedic hospital in the country, where he was appointed as a consultant in 2010.

His specialist interest is in surgery of the adult hip and knee. Mr Miles hip is focused on returning function to as high a level as possible. He is keen to use less invasive techniques where possible, including arthroscopic surgery. In sports injury and young patients this includes stem cell treatment for cartilage lesions, meniscal repair and ligament reconstruction. He has a particular focus on dancers and sports people so understands high mobility and high joint load demands. His joint replacement practice includes robotic and partial replacements as he believes high function comes through accurate surgery and preservation of natural tissues wherever possible. At Stanmore, he provides tertiary referral services for patients from all over the UK, including a high percentage of revision knee and hip surgeries. This includes custom prostheses, recurrent infection cases and cases with significant deformity of the knee or hip.

Mr Miles is heavily involved in orthopaedic writing, research and training. He organises courses on hip and knee surgery in London and has regular visits from surgeons throughout the world to teach new techniques.
