Mr Greg O'Toole Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon based at Royal Free Hospital in London. He is co-lead of the world renowned Ear Reconstruction Service which provides treatment to patients with congenital and traumatic deformity of the ear. It is the largest department in Europe treating microtia in adults and children, and the results of surgical reconstruction are amongst the best in the world.
Mr O'Toole trained in Oxford and Sydney, before completing his Royal College of Surgeons Plastic Surgery qualification (FRCS Plast). Following this he undertook a two year fellowship in Paris and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) for his research into the use of gene therapy in surgery.
He introduced the ‘EarStitch' procedure for prominent ear correction surgery and performs up to 200 EarFold and EarStitch procedures per year. He also performs a earlobe reductions and revision otoplasty. He is also actively involved in research and his work has been widely published in medical literature. He is often invited to speak at conferences worldwide and also lectures trainee doctors in plastic surgery.
Mr O'Toole is also involved in philanthropic activities. He travels frequently to underprivileged communities in India, Polynesian Islands and Cambodia to operate on patients otherwise unable to afford treatment. He worked as an assistant surgeon in Thailand and Malaysia in the 1990s.
He is full member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and a founding member of the International Society of Ear Reconstruction (ISAR). He is also a fellow of the European Board of Plastic Surgeons (EBOPRAS) and on the UK Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery.
In 2012, Mr O'Toole was included in The Times list of international experts for his work in plastic surgery. He has also appeared as a specialist on Embarrassing Bodies on Channel 4 and on The One Show on BBC1.
