Derek"s NHS practice is based at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, which recently merged with the Royal Free Hospital to form the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. He provides a comprehensive service in the generality of Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery and has a sub-specialty interest in Foot and Ankle surgery.
Derek qualified in Medicine from the University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2000. He completed Basic Surgical Training at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. He gained the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) in 2005. In 2006 he was selected for Higher Specialist Training in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery on the Royal Free/Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore rotation. He attained the Intercollegiate Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS) in 2010.
Derek is dual-fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery and orthopaedic trauma. He undertook sub-specialist foot and ankle surgical training on two programmes - the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore; and the Surrey Foot & Ankle Fellowship at Frimley Park and Royal Surrey County Hospitals.
His did his Orthoapedic Trauma Fellowship at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, the major trauma centre for the Sussex network.
He was awarded the British Orthopaedic Association Travelling Fellowships in 2012 and 2013 and the AO Trauma Fellowship to Germany in 2013.
Derek is actively involved in postgraduate medical education and clinical research. He lectures on various regional postgraduate courses and has published several papers in orthopaedic peer-review journals. -
