Mr Chris Anderson is a Consultant Urologist with a specialist interest in oncology, particularly renal and prostate cancer. Having trained and qualified in South Africa, he came to the UK in 1997 and underwent further training at The Middlesex, Charing Cross, Whipps Cross and Addenbrookes hospitals. He commenced a full time consultant post at St George’s Hospital in 1999. During the next few years he focused his attention on minimally invasive surgery. As a result he did fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio and Jackson University Hospital in Miami to develop the skills for Laparoscopic Renal Cancer Surgery. He has subsequently established a tertiary referral practise for laparoscopic (and open) renal cancer surgery. He was the first person to introduce laparoscopic renal cryotherapy to the UK in 2004. He has been an early adopter of Robotic surgery for renal cancer, particularly for partial nephrectomy.

Minimally invasive surgical options for the treatment of prostate cancer have also gained in popularity in recent years and to this end Mr Anderson did a fellowship in Leipzig where he learned laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Furthermore he did a fellowship in the Henry Ford hospital, Detroit where he learned Robotic radical prostatectomy. He was part of a team of surgeons who introduced robotic surgery to the UK in 2005 and continues to have a keen interest and expertise in the robotic approach to early stage prostate cancer.

Mr Anderson has played an active role in Clinical research and has been Faculty Member and Guest Speaker at numerous National conferences. In recent years he has had a large number of abstracts accepted for presentation at the British Association of Urological Surgeons annual meeting. As Lead cancer clinician at St Georges Hospital, he has lead the department through very successful Peer Review assessments.
