    Mr Anil J Desai qualified in Medicine from the MS University of Baroda, India in 1981. He pursued training in surgery in the UK and was a Specialist Registrar on the North Thames Rotation. He has obtained an MPhil from the University of London for his research at Charing Cross Hospital on expression of variant Estrogen Receptors in breast cancer. He was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Bromley Hospital in 1999.

    Mr Desai has been the QA lead surgeon for the SE London Breast Screening Programme since 2000. His special interest is in Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery. He believes in ensuring high standards of care and feels that a well run QA system is key to good outcomes. His passion for equality and high standards of care are the reasons for joining the QA team.

    Mr Desai took up the role of QA surgeon on 1st January 2010. His role is to ensure that the "NHSBSP" guidelines are being met by working as part of a team, carrying out Quality Assurance Audits of Breast Screening Units in London. The role provides support and advice to breast screening units on all aspects of surgical performance. Mr Desai attends local, regional and national meetings where he takes a pro-active role in suggesting changes to improve the Breast Screening Programme.
