    Dr Hussain is a consultant cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist (heart rhythm specialist) at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust. A world leading specialist heart and lung organisation.

    He graduated from Birmingham University with Honours degrees in both Physiology (1990) and Medicine (1993). He trained in general cardiology in some of the most prestigious hospitals across London. He then undertook research in basic science projects relating to heart rhythm disorders at Imperial College London and Columbia University, New York. Research that led to a Young Investigator Prize at the European Society of Cardiology. He completed his training by sub-specialising in cardiac electrophysiology. He was appointed as a consultant in 2006 to the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust, specifically to expand ablation services which is his field of interest. The arrhythmia service, he is part of, is now one of the largest in the country with outcomes comparable to global centres of excellence. He is passionate about delivering high quality services and in particular the role of new digital technology in healthcare. He is currently undertaking a postgraduate diploma in digital health leadership with Imperial College/Harvard University, a course commissioned by NHS England to identify the digital health leaders of the future. His senior management responsibilities include director of the cardiac catheter labs and lead for cardiology at Harefield Hospital. He is active in research, with projects examining the best treatment for patients with arrhythmias. He is the lead on an award winning project screening for atrial fibrillation, using an innovative hand held device in community pharmacies, to try and reduce the risk of stroke. His clinical duties include delivering comprehensive, patient centred care to patients with a wide range of cardiac disorders, but primarily those with heart rhythm problems. His particular expertise is in ablation treatment of arrhythmias especially atrial fibrillation. He is a highly experienced operator with an excellent record, over many years, in both successful outcomes and safety.
