Dr Alex Digesu is based at St Mary's Hospital in London, as a Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Urogynaecology Subspecialist. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Imperial College, London. Dr Digesu has a wealth of experience in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, with over 15 years of experience caring for pregnant women and managing both complicated and uncomplicated pregnancies.

After obtaining his medical degree in 1997, Dr Digesu remained at the University of Bari, Italy where he completed specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology and reproductive medicine in 2002. Staying here for a further three years, he obtained a PhD in oncological, gynaecological and geriatric surgery in 2005. Dr Digesu continued to broaden his clinical and academic experience in the UK, taking up a five-year fellowship in urogynaecology at King’s College Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, London. He also undertook two years of subspecialty training in urogynaecology and reconstructive pelvic floor surgery at Imperial College London.

Dr Digesu has been a obstetrician and gynaecologist consultant in a number of university teaching hospitals and district general hospitals based in various countries, including Italy, Switzerland and the UK. His key specialist areas of interests include urogynaecology, reconstructive vaginal and pelvic floor surgery, vaginal/perineal trauma following childbirth, female urinary incontinence, uterovaginal prolapse, gynaecological surgery, uterovaginal prolapse, female urology, chronic pelvic pain, bladder pain syndrome, interstitial cystitis, recurrent UTI, neurourology and neuromodulation.

Dr Digesu has published widely in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, being the author of over 80 articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He is also very often invited to share his extensive research and expertise at both national and international conferences.

Outside of his clinical practice, Dr Digesu enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.
