    Russell qualified in 1999 from Imperial College with a distinction in Medicine. He undertook his specialist training within London.
    He completed a MD(Res) at UCL in PET/CT imaging in head and neck cancer and adaption of radiotherapy techniques to this. During this period he gained experience at the Clinicq St Luc (Belgium) with Professor Vincent Gregoire. He continues to have a active research interest in functional imaging related to cancer diagnosis and treatment as well as adaptive and novel radiotherapy (including proton) and brachytherapy techniques.These are also his main clinical interests.

    Russell was appointed as a consultant in clinical oncology at UCLH in 2016. He had previously been a consultant at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre for 6 years. During this time he was an member and of the East of England Head and Neck Clinical Commissioning Group, advocate for early cancer diagnosis, patient experience and survivorship intiatives.

    He has a further interest in the development and management of late side effects related to cancer treatment.

    He is a clinical educationalist focussing on under and post-graduate training. Roles have included: regional speciality advisor within the Royal College of Radiologists, facilitator of trainer developement.
